Introducing Sophia
Mavericks of Movement was built on the belief that movement training should extend far beyond the walls of a traditional studio. Founded in 2025 after beginning as a grassroots Pilates program for equestrians in Northern California, the project has evolved into a performance-driven movement practice rooted in biomechanics, athleticism, resilience, and human potential.
I am a comprehensively certified Classical Pilates instructor, 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher, and Kinesiology student at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, where I study movement science, rehabilitation, and performance. My work is shaped by both the precision of clinical movement education and the lived experience of high-level athletic and artistic training.
Before entering the field of sports performance, I trained and performed professionally with Ballet Austin, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, DART Dance Berlin, Complexions Ballet, and Gibney Company in New York. That background gave me a refined understanding of coordination, proprioception, movement efficiency, and the relationship between strength and control under pressure.
My experience now bridges athletic performance, injury prevention, rehabilitation support, and movement coaching. I have gained exposure to NCAA Division I athletes through the University of Iowa Athletic Performance program and the University of Hawai‘i Athletic Training department, supporting strength and conditioning sessions, movement readiness, rehabilitation, and athlete care across basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, football, and beach volleyball.
Alongside my clinical and performance experience, I have taught and continue to teach Pilates internationally across Hawai‘i, California, and Berlin, developing individualized programming focused on mobility, strength, postural integrity, and long-term movement capacity.
As a lifelong student of movement, my background spans ballet, yoga, Gyrotonic, Gyrokinesis, horseback riding, surfing, and weightlifting. Whether working with competitive athletes, recovering movers, or clients simply seeking to feel stronger in their everyday lives, my mission remains the same: to help people reconnect to their bodies through intelligent, performance-based movement that creates lasting transformation.
