The New Years “Reframe”

By Sophia Crane

Looking back on the past year, think of a few goals you set for yourself. Check in on the progress of each one. Some may feel unfinished or stuck. Others, you may have completed—or even surpassed.

How do you feel after checking in on the status of these goals you set in 2025?

Take Ownership

I feel like ___ because I treated myself like ___

  • Yes, I gained weight because I took these actions

  • Yes, I lost progress because I failed to take action

  • Yes, I did not reach my goal because I failed to take action

NOTHING is wrong with you.

We believe we are the extraordinary excuse as to why things like diet, exercise and sleep don’t work for us. We believe this excuse will protect us from failure that even if we did devote our entire life to the change, it may not work/yield the results.

Acknowledge everything you HAVE done

  1. Write a list of 3 things you accomplished in this past month that you are proud of

  2. Now 3 things from the past year

  3. Now 2 things in your entire life that you are proud to say you’ve done

Look at that! You’ve done a lot. You have just proven to yourself that you are capable. You are driven to achieve. You are able to follow through with something.

Self Imposed Limitations

Now that you’ve seen proof of what you’re capable of, let’s examine the beliefs that may still be holding you back. You may be subconsciously (or consciously) reinforcing untrue beliefs about yourself in order to create order and an image to uphold in your mind.

  • Write down or reflect on an exercise, a space, a practice, a purpose that you feel REALLY good doing. You are meant to do this, it's your thing, you enjoy it.

  • Now identify something that you want to try, you are a beginner in, or have always admired.

  • What makes you think you are unqualified to try this new thing? What about your personality, your schedule, your general life that is holding you back from taking this new action?

  • What would happen if you applied yourself to this goal? Would that change how you think others perceive you? Would you respect yourself more for trying?

  • Looking at what you’ve already done, what can you add or expound on?

The Connection

Now you have this list of these actions you have taken successfully. Next to it is the action you want to take– on paper or in your mind. So how are these actions really that much different? Because one of them you told yourself you are incapable of completing. Because it's challenging, because it's new, because it's going to DISRUPT your current comfort level. You are not meant to settle. Your body is built to withstand a full and adventurous life. You deserve to utilize the facility you have because that is the vehicle to a long life of love, and family, and experiences.

The excuses are not necessary. The excuses are protecting you from a life that is better, and that is daunting because that life is still unknown. Explore the difference between ‘excuses’ and ‘reasons’. Sometimes circumstances beyond one’s control really does impede a goal. Being honest with oneself about what is really going on—a reason or an excuse—can help you frame a plan of attack to reach the goal. This distinction matters because it determines whether you feel stuck or strategic.

The Reflection

Now we move from possibility into vision.

Write the answers down to these questions, or create a photo collage to represent the ideas you have explored:

  1. What do you want your life to look like?

    1. Where do you live in this dream life?

    2. What does this dream space include?

  2. How do you want to spend your days?

    1. What is your primary source of income in your dream life?

    2. What excites you about this career?

    3. Do you have a passion project?

  3. What types of people do you want to surround yourself with?

    1. Who are they?

    2. How are you going to integrate them into your life?

  4. How do you want to feel each day?

    1. How are you moving and caring for your body in this dream life?

    2. How do you facilitate your work life balance?

    3. How can you cultivate joy into your day?

Lastly, reframe.

Let this be the moment that you give yourself permission to live your life AUTHENTICALLY + UNAPOLOGETICALLY.

Don’t apologize for going after what you want. Don’t dream small, dream big. This world is full of abundance— there is enough room for EVERYONE to live the life of their dreams. It’s just up to you to make that happen.
